Uncivilized is back with their latest release, " 'round midnight in e minor, " (stylized in all lowercase) a single releasing one week before their new full-length album, *5 by Monk by Csatari*, which comes out on the 24th of November via the Ignore Heroes imprint. The single is a bluesy rendition of Thelonious Monk's iconic "'Round 'Bout Midnight," a composition famously associated with many classic recordings, including a quintessential version by the first Miles Davis Quintet. "‘Round Midnight" stands out in Monk's repertoire as one of the few compositions with accompanying lyrics, and has been interpreted by a multitude of pop and jazz artists, from the luminous singers Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, to an all-star ensemble fronted by Bobby McFerrin, to a 1986 feature-film of the same name directed by longtime Monk-enthusiast Clint Eastwood.

Uncivilized approaches this cherished composition in their signature style, offering an interpretation that's low-key and lo-fi (recorded in one take and mastered by WNYU's Tom Miritello), while still remaining sincere (a thread of uneasiness and noir-tinged chaos runs throughout). Their rendition is characterized by hushed notes and pristine tones from a solo acoustic guitar, giving a fresh, sombre-yet-humorous perspective to the enduring songscape that is "'Round Midnight".
