New York

by Uncivilized

  • Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

Out 17 March 2017, New York is a 4-track live EP from the punky Folk-Jazz collective Uncivilized, out of Brooklyn. Touting “its own fuzzy, folky, big-hearted thing” (The New York Times); “lovely melodies” (The Village Voice); and having been recently deemed "The Bernie Sanders Jazz Band" by Impose Magazine, this release is somewhere between lo-fi jazz artifact, and anti-establishment objet d’art. Each track on the release was recorded live at a now-closed NYC venue (The original Zinc Bar, Sycamore Bar & Flowershop, Manhattan Inn, and Tea Lounge). It features an A-side of folk-jazz originals, and a B-side of covers (including an expansive reading of “If I Should Lose You” and a swirling take on Elliott Smith’s “Speed Trials”). The release draws on the collective’s American Primitive influences and highlights some of the city’s best players from the folk, experimental, jazz and pop realms (an all-star band, of sorts). Releasing digitally via Tiny Montgomery Records and on limited edition 10” vinyl from the bandleader Csatari’s eco anti-label Ignore Heroes.
